Babylight - Songs of Everlasting Joy
"In today's world we don't have time to wait until these
children get into Primary or even Nursery to begin speaking to them
about their divine heritage; we are to start at birth. We need more than 'Eensy Weensy Spider' and 'Baby Beluga'."
So said Linda Coltrin to me two years ago and started us on the journey that would produce "Babylight". Using the melodies of Johann Sebastian Bach, Ludwig von Beethoven, Franz Josef Haydn, Richard Wagner, Felix Mendelssohn, Franz Liszt, Antonin Dvorak, Giuseppe Verdi, Robert Schumann, Nicolai Rimsky-Korsakov, Charles Gounod, Bedrich Smetana, Frederic Chopin, and some living composers (Jon Schmidt, Michael & Angela Webb, Coltrin & Romney) we began creating gentle songs that teach of our relationship to God and to each other in families.
Early on we were urged to take the Baby Einstein route and "keep the budget low". But we want our grandchildren to love organic and orchestral sounds and textures as well as the sounds modern technology allows. So our hearts over-ruled our heads…and we're not the least bit sorry!
Christeena Riggs (who played both Eponine and Cosette in Les Miserables on Broadway) and David Osmond ("Joseph" in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat National Tour) sing the mother and father roles with great tenderness. And our child vocalists (Sarah Adamson, Zack Adamson, Jack Ahlander, Alex Brown, Hannah Huber, Ella Larson, Isaac Murdock, Brieanna Rodriguez) who ranged in age from three to eleven years old remind us that there is much we are to learn from them.
A wonderful spirit accompanies the singing of these songs. And the
purpose of the CD is to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children
and the hearts of the children to the fathers by helping you sing
these songs to your little ones. Eye-to-eye contact accompanied by
singing creates a powerful bonding experience.
